TAURUS was born as a mechanical construction company with the name of C&G srl and since the 1960s it has been involved in the study, design, development and production of plants and machines intended for the processing of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap. Giovanni Colombo and Dino Giuliani, founders of the company, can be counted in Europe among the forerunners and innovators of compression and shearing techniques and technologies applied to scrap metal processing machines. The beginning saw TAURUS engaged in the construction of mechanical crocodile shears used for the manual cutting of production metal scraps.
In those years, the compression and automatic shearing of the "old scrap" took place with the use of bulky, heavy, expensive hydraulically operated "shear balers" intended for only a few users. It was in the 1970s that TAURUS developed the idea of building less bulky, lighter and more manageable "shear balers", but above all with prices and management costs accessible to a wider market, without however making the machines lack those characteristics of quality, reliability and safety that have always distinguished and distinguish the production of TAURUS. This radical change in the construction trend has been made possible by the introduction on the market of new and more advanced technologies and by the availability of updated materials with high mechanical characteristics.
Subsequent developments supported by the experiences acquired and by the collaboration with Peter Beyeler, technical-commercial and attentive connoisseur of the needs and requirements of the sector, led, towards the end of the 80s, to the study and creation of "shears balers" equipped with an original "swinging wing" compression system. The original system, which makes the difference today as then, allows a significant recovery of times during the scrap compression stage compared to alternative techniques and a significant benefit of an increase in production. The independent movement, the particular geometry of the two "swinging" wings, hinged to the base of the pre-compression box of the "shear baler", have reduced by over 30%, compared to other similar systems, the execution times of the compacting operations and the times of scrap preparation necessary to make the material of such dimensions as to be able to feed the mouth of the shear. The system has been patented and for the commercial promotion of this new product the TAURUS brand has been introduced and has established itself as a synonym of sturdiness and reliability. From those years to today, more than 1000 shears equipped with a "swinging wing" compression system have been installed under the TAURUS brand, and it is present wherever there is scrap to be sheared.
In 1991, under the request of the French company CFF, leader in the scrap trade sector, TAURUS began the design and produce the MILLFEEDER (scrap pre-shredder intended for feeding hammers mills). In the production of MILLFEEDERS, with power installed by 400 to 1000 kw, today TAURUS is the undisputed leader in the world. The MILLFEEDERS are machines intended for ripping, in a gross manner, bulky scrap or scrap bales in preparation to a following crushing operation more efficient, economical, and safer with hammers mills. At the end of the 90s, TAURUS enriches its product line with the design and construction of BRAVO twin-shaft pre-shredders.
In the early 2000s, the TR inclined shear became part of TAURUS range of machines.
In the 2010 begins the study, design and production of the REDMILL, the scrap crushing and separation module (patented). The module is equipped with a new generation compact hammer mill with rotors diameter up to 65” and an electric motor up to 1500 hp.
In 2014 TAURUS celebrated its 50th anniversary
After extensive research and a long experimentation, TAURUS begins the construction of an innovative metal refining module. The REDFINER is developed and marketed to separate and recover the metal components from all the scrap coming from the waste of the crushing plants, from the collection scrap and in general from consumer goods.
In 2018, the first TAURUS branded baler and shear on tracks became part of production.
TAURUS NORTH AMERICA was born from the winning combination between TAURUS and ELV SELECT. In addition to representing the entire range of TAURUS machines, ELV Select is also responsible for after-sales technical assistance in the area.
In 2023 TAURUS presents its renewed and completed product line:
